Creative Partnerships On-line Community

This project, sponsored by Creative Partnerships, aims to improve collaborative and creative approaches to work within and between schools using a web-based community.

The project has led to the development of a safe web environment for pupils and their teachers to communicate and work together. Children are encouraged to build their own web pages using a TikiWiki open source content management system, as well as work through tasks set by their teachers. Pupils are also able to interact with students and teachers from other schools via virtual notice boards, discussion forums, shout boxes and messaging systems.

The project has brought to light some interesting anthropological issues highlighting the differences between commuincation on-line via email as opposed to in person.

Funding was sought from Creative Partnerships to extend the project to a number of Norfolk schools, to prepare a business model which would allow online communities to be accessible to all schools for minimum cost, and to research how communities are created.
