UK1 Mulbarton EDOL Group

The UK1 group, led by The Forum Trust, comes from Mulbarton, a rural village about six miles south of Norwich. All group members have lived in Mulbarton for years, some of their families have lived there for generations. Most members knew one another when they joined the group but all came from different backgrounds. Some worked in the building trade, one was a teacher, another a school cook, but all felt left behind by recent advances in technology.

Initially lessons were held in the IT suite of Mulbarton First School but the group outgrew this and moved to larger facilities at Mulbarton Middle School.

Lessons show students how to use the EDOL Tiki system so that they can create webpages and communicate successfully with their friends across Europe. The students were so eager to learn that lessons were broadened to include other aspects of IT such as:
  • The Internet
  • Emailing
  • Word processing
  • Digital cameras
  • Databases
  • Digital images
  •
Lessons are held weekly by members of the Research and Innovation team.

Members of the group have taken part in a number of trips to visit other participating European countries, including Italy and Denmark. These visits have been very exciting and interesting, allowing students to meet their EDOL friends face to face after months of communicating electronically.
